“What do we leave behind when we cross each frontier? Each moment seems split in two; melancholy for what was left behind and the excitement of entering a new land"

Life is a journey. Every experience, thought, and action are a part of that journey. Everyday we take a walk into the unknown. There is no idle or stall in the process: every day is another step throughout the adventure. However, while it may be natural to put one foot in front of the other, I feel as though I am about to take an ambitious next step; more of a leap if you will.
As many of you know, I’ve been looking into relocating closer to the equator and to where Spanish is the official language. A smaller group of you know, that this desire started back in my sophomore year of college, when I felt God putting the desire on my heart to go, for Him, and leave my known life for a bit. Technically, such a desire has been instilled in me since my youth when my parents took their own leap (of faith) and raised me to believe that God has a place in my life.
God has now opened the doors to next place in my life: Guatemala. At this time I feel committed to giving 6 months of my time in service to an orphanage located outside of Guatemala City, called Casa Bernabe. I will be part of the staff while I am there and will serve in any capacity they need me. It seems that my main role will be in acting as a wellness nurse for the children: helping during times of house-wide illness and interacting with the local doctor to better coordinate care for the children. The staff seem to have a true heart for the children and I am eager to experience the family presence which they so lovingly create. If you wish to learn more about Casa Bernabe, for now visit their website, www.foce.org. Also, if you feel lead to commit to either prayer or financial support for me, refer to my support letter. I am starting this blog to chronicle my time spent away, and cannot wait to share with you the experiences, joys, and hardships along the way. I will also share the ways that the orphanage itself is in need and how to best pray for their and my needs.
God has ordered my steps over the last few months to bring me to this decision. I am now ready to take the leap to Guatemala, and I could not be more excited. While I have been blessed tremendously through my job, community, and church in DC; I am ready for a change. There are several unknowns in this adventure. However, what I do know is that I am craving a new culture, community, and center around which to base my experiences and perspective. Obviously, I cannot prepare for every circumstance, but I am confident that God walks with me into this adventure, just as He has and will continue to every day of my life. I am also confident that God will bless me with your continued love and encouragement while I am gone. Thanks for reading my first post, I hope that you will join me through many more!
